In 1982, the original St. Joseph’s Girls’ Primary School, which was attached to the Mercy Convent, closed its doors and the new school was officially opened in September of that year.

The staff of eight teachers including the Principal, Sr. Dominic Connolly and the Vice Principal, Mrs. Ethel O’ Donavan moved into a beautiful modern building with two playgrounds and extensive green lawns. Sr. Evangelist Hogan replaced Sr. Dominic for two years while Sr. Dominic was on sabbatical leave.

The last Sister of Mercy to serve as Principal was Sr. Veronica Neville.
When she retired in 1997, Mrs. Eileen Kehily became the first lay principal of St. Joseph’s. Mrs. Teresa Shanahan succeeded Mrs. O’ Donovan as Deputy Principal in 1999. In 2008 Mr Glynn was appointed principal and later Mrs O’Brien replaced Mrs Shanahan as Vice Principal. In 2013 Mr Glynn moved to CBS Ennis.

In 2013 Cait Uí Raghallaigh was appointed as our principal. When Mrs O’Brien retired in 2015 Mrs Groarke became the Vice Principal.
